Mambo Ashmore was a pure-bred miniature schnauzer born on September 30th, 2023 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was given the name Bigfoot by his breeder. At 8 weeks old, he was adopted by the Ashmore-Rosales Family and renamed Mambo, in celebration of the family's Italian and Latin roots as well as the famous song they would sing to Rosabella.
From the beginning, Mambo had a hugely kind, sweet, and spunky personality. He loved to pull doggie toys and play tug. He loved when a toy was thrown, so he could run after it, but not bring it back to the thrower! He wanted the thrower to play tug again before throwing it! He licked and gave tiny nibbles to anyone he could. He had the most beautiful and fluffy white and brown hair, slightly different from most miniature schnauzers. Strangers, family, and friends alike always felt compelled to rub and scratch his head and body, and he savored every minute of it. He loved everyone, and everyone loved him.
Mambo is survived by his mommy, Sharline, his daddy, Michael, and his "siblings" Rosabella and Meeco.
Mambo brought so much joy to all those around him, and his legacy will live on. As such, the family wishes to create a foundation in Mambo's memory. The Mambo's Roses Foundation will be devoted to providing emotional support and therapeutic services via trained animals to military veterans. Stay tuned for more information on the foundation.
A Remembrance Walk will be held on Sunday, October 19th at 10am. It will be held starting at the cul de sac on Umstead Grove Way. We will walk to the Eno River (about a 7 minute walk).
At the Eno River, we will gently throw stones into the river. Please bring a stone, or plan to pick one up at the Eno River. Before the throw, we will think of our favorite memory of Mambo. The family may say a few words at the river.
If you are unable to join, you are welcome to go for a walk in Mambo's honor, and participate in the same ritual.
All are welcome.

Mambo, you were were the greatest dog ever.
You brought us so much love and joy.
We will miss you and remember you always.
Run free with Smushy and Bushy!
Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth
and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?
The righteous care for the needs of their animals,
but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.

On Thursday, October 9th, 2025, while the human family was out of the town, Mambo was staying with a family friend. Another dog (not owned by the friend) attacked Mambo, and he suffered extensive life threatening injuries. The family made the difficult decision to let Mambo go peacefully so he would not suffer.
